About

Delve into the mysteries of Buddhist meditation and spiritual contemplation as Tibet’s Secret Temple is unveiled at the Wellcome Collection.

The displays are centred around rarely-seen 17th-century murals from the Dalai Lamas’ private chamber in Lhasa’s Lukhang Temple, which have been digitally re-created into life-size artworks for this exhibition. More than 120 fascinating artefacts inspired by these murals have been assembled to shed light on its ancient secrets, from its history to the Tantric Buddhist beliefs and practices it illustrates and their connection to the mind and body.

Browse through statues of deities, scroll paintings, photographs, ritual implements and manuscripts, as they reveal the hidden stories of advanced practitioners, and discover how these practices relate to modern understanding of meditative wellbeing.
