Catch Puccini's great opera Tosca in the majestic surroundings of the Royal Opera House.

Angela Gheorghiu and Amanda Echalaz star in Jonathan Kent’s highly-regarded production of this dramatic tale of love, villainy and political scheming.

When the fugitive Angelotti enlists the help of the painter Cavaradossi to make good his escape, the pair inadvertently come to the attention of Scarpia, the malevolent Chief of Police. The painter is captured and tortured while his lover, Tosca, can hear his cries. Tosca reveals the hiding place of Angelotti on the condition that Cavaradossi’s life is spared, but can she trust the word of the sadistic police chief?

Featuring naturalistic production values, including Scarpia’s sinister study with torture chamber and the candle-lit church, this powerful production contrasts darkness and light, with the demonic Scarpia and the idealistic lovers.
