About

Step back into the glamourous world of 19th century Paris for Richard Eyre's classic production of the tragic opera La Traviata at the Royal Opera House.

Verdi’s moving opera tells the story of the Parisian courtesan Violetta and young nobleman Alfredo who fall passionately in love. Alfredo’s unsympathetic father convinces Violetta to leave Alfredo, citing the family’s best interests. Unaware that Violetta is terribly ill, she is persuaded to leave. Will Alfredo learn the truth of Violetta’s departure and will the lovers be reunited before she reaches her deathbed?

Sung in Italian with English surtitles, the tragic and enduring love story is set to Verdi’s popular opera score, including Sempre Libera, Pura Siccome un Angelo and Parigi, o Cara.
