An operatic take on an ancient myth: experience the magic of Rossi's Orpheus at London’s Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Following the Greek Myth of Orpheus – a musician who tries to use his talent to save his love Eurydice from the clutches of Hades – Rossi's Orpheus is a baroque opera that debuted in Paris in 1647.
This new production of Rossi's classic is a collaboration between Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal Opera with L'Ormindo. Performed in English, this production was first staged in 2014 and again earlier this year to much critical acclaim.
The show is performed by candlelight against the period backdrop of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on the Thames.
Orpheus is directed by Keith Warner and features a strong cast of young singers, with musical direction by Christian Curnyn.
