About

Experience the power and magnetism of Bizet's most popular opera as Carmen returns to the stage at the Royal Opera House.

His 17th and final opera, Carmen tells the story of Don Jose, an inexperienced young soldier seeking to marry Micaela, a girl that he knows from his home village. His plans are thrown wildly off course when he encounters the alluring Carmen, a sensual and spirited woman very different from his intended bride.

Carmen soon becomes bored with Don Jose and turns her attentions to the toreador Escamillo, falling in love with him to the despair of Jose. Unable to control his emotions, Don Jose hunts down Carmen and discovers her at the bullring where Escamillo is fighting.

With murderous intentions, the young soldier seeks a violent resolution to the entangled romance. Flamboyant, passionate and violent, Bizet's work has lost none of its appeal since its debut in the 19th century. With rousing music that includes the Toreador Song and Carmen's famous Habanera, all the ingredients are here for a truly great opera.
