For beguiling dance and visual splendour, shows don't get much better than Raven Girl at the Royal Opera House.

The beautiful work was created by Royal Ballet Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and was his seventh piece for the main stage at Covent Garden when it first opened in 2013.

The fairytale ballet tells the story of a postman who discovers a raven that has fallen from its nest. Falling in love, they end up with a daughter, the Raven Girl. She would love to be able to fly like her mother but sadly without any wings this looks to be impossible.

A chance encounter at university leads her to meet a doctor who claims to have knowledge of chimeras. Guessing that this could be the solution to her problems, she asks if she too could be given wings.

Things take a tragic turn when her boyfriend, horrified at her physical changes, murders the doctor. At the moment of her greatest despair, Raven Girl meets the Raven Prince – could he be the one to restore happiness to her life?
