Blockbuster playwright David Hare is back at Hampstead Theatre with the story of Etonian science teacher John Christie, who embarks on an ambitious project to construct an Opera House on his Sussex estate in 1934.
Christie’s project is starting to look impossible, even in the face of his determined will, until he hears word of a group of refugees for whom life in Germany is becoming impossible. Can they help him realise his dream of artistic perfection? And, more importantly, will they cast his wife in the lead?
Director Jeremy Herrin is coming off a rich vein of form himself, following West End transfers of his two latest works, The Nether and Wolf Hall/Bring up the Bodies.
