About

Be transported to the eve of the French Revolution in the Royal Opera House’s authentic take on one of the greatest comic operas of all time, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro).

David McVicar’s production of Mozart’s glorious work sets the action in a French chateau in 1830, the eve of the French Revolution. It tells the story of Figaro and Susanna, a couple who are looking forward to their upcoming wedding day. Unfortunately, Figaro’s master, the villainous Count Almaviva, has set his sights on Figaro’s fiancée. Taking the devious step of asking the count’s wife to help them with their problems, Figaro and Susanna manage to outwit Almaviva, leaving him humiliated and ashamed.

Now regarded as one of Mozart’s best works, this hugely entertaining comedy was originally banned in Vienna. Covering all aspects of human emotion, the complex plot moves expertly and effortlessly between themes of class struggle, deep despair and high comedy, all set to the famously beautiful score.
