Witness the night sky as you have never seen it before as Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year returns to the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

This annual competition, which is now in its eighth year, sees talented photographers submit breath-taking shots of the skies, planets, space and stars in an effort to win the prestigious award. The goal of the enterprise is simple - to capture the most spectacular and beautiful visions of the cosmos possible.

See the 2016 winning entries alongside notable runners-up across the competition’s nine main categories including aurorae, skyscapes, people and space, our sun, our moon, galaxies, stars and nebulae, plus planets, comets and asteroids. There is also a special category for children under the age of 16.
