Witness the night sky as you have never seen it before as Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year returns to the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

The annual competition, which is now in its ninth year, sees talented professional and amateur photographers submit breathtaking shots of the skies, planets, space and stars in an effort to win the prestigious award.

See 2017's winning entries alongside notable runners-up in the competition’s nine main categories, including Aurorae, Skyscapes, People and Space, Our Sun, Our Moon, Stars and Nebulae, Galaxies, and Planets, Comets and Asteroids. There is also a special category for budding photographers under the age of 16.

Enjoy some of the most spectacular visions of the cosmos in a beautiful setting steeped in astronomical history.
