About

Don't miss the chance to witness a ground-breaking take on Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers, as the Royal Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House.

A 20th-century classic, this ballet by Kenneth MacMillan features Sergey Prokofiev’s famously poignant score and uses the location of 16th Century Verona to great effect. Expect startling set pieces such as the lavish ball and the market swordfight, which add extra colour to the great work.

When Romeo and Juliet fall passionately in love, their chances of happiness are hindered by the ongoing war between their two families. Deciding to marry in secret, things take a dark turn when Romeo kills one of Juliet’s cousins in a fight. Juliet drinks a potion that is supposed to give the appearance of death - will tragedy ensue or will it end with the lovers reconciled once more?
