Delve into a world of beautiful craftsmanship and stunning design as the V&A Museum asks: What is Luxury? Discover the reasoning behind our concept of a luxury item and find out exactly which properties something needs to be legitimately described as luxurious.

The exhibition features around 100 items that meet the criteria, presenting works that have taken long periods of time and vast reserves of skill to produce. The items on display vary from cutting-edge conceptual ideas to leading cultural artefacts.

Some of the more unusual exhibits include Hair Highway by Studio Swine, where human hair is set in resin to create decorative furniture. Gabriel Barcia-Colombo’s DNA Vending Machine contains pre-packaged DNA samples, asking visitors to muse over the increasing access to biotechnology. Bubble Bath Necklace by Nora Fok is made from 1,000 hand-knitted nylon bubbles, whilst Time Elapsed, by Philippe Malouin, is a large spirograph that rotates and draws patterns made of sand.
