About

Be mesmerised by the power of music at the sixth edition of Transcender, at the Barbican Centre.

This latest edition of the acclaimed series of psychedelic music features worldwide musicians, from Sweden to the Sahara. Exploring links between traditional devotional music and contemporary styles, these works share a common impulse to transport listeners beyond the "usual".

A key highlight of this year's series is the world premiere of the late Sir John Tavener's last major concert work, Flood of Beauty. Written largely in Sanskrit, the poetry of this work suggests the extent to which Tavener became influenced by South Asian musical traditions.

Add this to the virtuosic singers and instrumentalists of The Kamkars, the eclectic work from Fire! Orchestra and much more, and the series truly becomes an out-of-this-world experience.
