Anyone looking for a joyous, musical night out should put the Scottsboro Boys at the Garrick Theatre to the top of the priority list. From the writers of the hit musicals Chicago and Cabaret, this award winning show is making its way to the West End following huge success at the highly regarded Young Vic theatre.
Set in the 1930s, this is the true story of nine young black men who embark on a journey to start their lives afresh, looking for hope and purpose in the Alabama town of Scottsboro. On the course of their travels they encounter terrible problems when they are falsely accused of crimes that they didn't commit. Making the headlines across the nation, the group unwittingly become a key part of American history and the Civil Rights movement when their trial leads to a Supreme Court ruling that black people could no longer be excluded from juries.
Packing a dramatic punch whilst retaining all the best elements of a spectacular musical, The Scottsboro Boys is a masterful example of theatre at its finest.
