Royal Shakespeare Company supremo Gregory Doran brings his acclaimed productions of Henry IV Parts I and II to the Barbican, following their premieres in Stratford-Upon-Avon and a national tour.
In Part I we witnessed King Henry prepare for war while feckless Prince Hal wastes his days in taverns with reprobate knight Falstaff. In Part II Henry's health deteriorates as a second rebellion threatens the realm. Hal must now choose between duty to his country and loyalty to an old friend.
Sir Antony Sher returns to the RSC to play the questionable comic knight Falstaff. He has already received accolades for his interpretation, prompting comparisons with Robert Stephens' portrayal in 1991. Meanwhile, Jasper Britton portrays Henry IV and Alex Hassell is Prince Hal.
