Oscar Wilde's celebrated work The Importance of Being Earnest takes to the stage at London's Harold Pinter Theatre.
This lively telling of the evergreen work stars television charmer Nigel Havers (recently seen in Downton Abbey), Sian Phillips, Rosalind Ayres, Cherie Lunghi and Martin Jarvis.
Set in a Victorian mansion, the farcical tale revolves around two friends, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff. The pair both end up pretending to be a fictional person named Ernest, living odd double lives as they charm ladies and deal in scandal and gossip. Employing all sorts of trickery to maintain their deception, the misadventures of the pair become ever more complex in a narrative that satirises Victorian society and the social manners of the day.
