Mr Burns at Almeida Theatre

Catch a glimpse into a future America where The Simpsons have become a myth, as Mr Burns arrives at the Almeida Theatre.

Described as a searing vision of post-apocalyptic America, this play by Anne Washburn was regarded as one of the most significant plays of the year when it opened in New York in 2013. Contemplating the end of life as we know it in modern-day America, the play imagines a future where the nation has no electrical power – how can it survive?

A group of survivors in the now desolate USA reminisce about a much-loved episode of The Simpsons. The story of this episode is repeated frequently and then passed down to their descendants over the years, becoming increasingly distorted and eventually a myth.

The plot asks questions about whether the stories that we hear help to shape us as people, looking at where the boundaries lie between pop and high culture. When society has crumbled, what happens to the future of America’s most famous television family?
