Useful and Beautiful: Contemporary Design For The Home at Geffrye Museum

From to

Overview

Innovative and attractive design are the themes behind Useful and Beautiful at the Geffrye Musuem.

The exhibition is a showcase of innovation and creativity relating to objects made for use in the home. It aims to highlight just how designers respond to various issues that crop up in the design process, such as efficiency, sustainability, durability, usefulness and, of course, beauty. The work of bright new talents and established designers has been brought together, covering everything from wallpaper, furniture and lighting to homeware and domestic products. Extensive and compelling, the collection reaches as far as the museum’s garden, with inventive garden furniture design being a particular highlight.

The scope of the show is large, with representations of mass produced, batch produced, handmade and experimental items vying for attention. Other highlights include interactive features, talks from designers, workshops and design activities for children.
