Fans of comedy should head to the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre for a hilarious new production of Hobson's Choice.
Harold Brighouse's play (whose title means to have no choice at all) is set in the north of England, a land of cobbled streets and old fashioned pubs. Star of television and film Mark Benton plays Hobson, a cobbler whose life is thrown into disarray when it's revealed that his daughter is planning to marry a rival boot maker, the put-upon Willie Mossop (played by Karl Davies). Having previously employed Willie, Hobson is desperate to prevent the wedding, fearing that his social status will be undermined and that his livelihood is at risk.
With much elaborate scheming and confusion on both sides, all the ingredients are in place for a laugh out loud tale of confusion, family bonds and skulduggery in the cobbling trade. With difficult choices to be made all round, will business rivalries or family ties win the day?
