London's impact on world history and culture is second to no other city on earth. London has seen the Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Normans and now representatives of every nation come and leave their mark on the capital, creating a uniquely varied city of amazing contrasts. Roman walls sit next to Norman castles, Victorian Bridges next to 1000 ft. glass skyscrapers and through it all runs the great River Thames which we have to thank for London's very existence.
London's two thousand years of history will come to life as we pass the remains of Roman London and the thousand year old medieval monument known as the Tower of London, before we cross over one of the most recognizable bridges in the world, Tower Bridge. Once we have crossed the river, your professional, experienced and fun guide will continue to recount the stories that put in context such classic sights as London Bridge, Borough Market, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
Through these sights and the engaging, passionate, funny and characterful stories your guide will share with you we will build up a picture of how London came to be the 600 square mile metropolis we know and love.
While the guided walk is in no way strenuous we will be building up a serious appetite as dinner time approaches. 2000 years of London history in two hours is hungry work! This is where the Fish and Chips come in...
Fish and Chips has been a firm British favourite for over 150 years. It consists of cod, deep-fried in a beer batter so that it is soft and succulent in the middle with a crisp outer bite and is served with thick perfectly cooked chips and tartar sauce. We have spared no effort (or enjoyment!) in researching which is the best Fish and Chip shop in London and are happy to say we have found it. Do not expect silver service and posh decor, the best fish and chip restaurant in London is true to the dish's working class origins and offers the authentic, off the beaten track and insider option of this classic London dish.
