Get a taste of Japanese culture in Trafalgar Square, as the annual Japan Matsuri festival celebrates 150 years of friendship between London and Japan this year and the story of the Satsuma Students from Kagoshima.
The festival, which is free to attend, transforms this central part of the capital into an outpost of Japan with a heady mix of music, dance, food and family entertainment. Performances take place all day across the two stages with music, martial arts, songs and dance, and special appearances by a number of acts from Kagoshima including drum dancers Izaku Taiko Odori and the brave samurai character Satsuma Kenshi Hayato.
Traditional Japanese festival food is on offer at the many stalls, while children of all ages can lose themselves in the wonders of Japanese cartoons with the Manga Wall. With something to enjoy for all the family, this is the perfect mix of culture and fun.
