The Barbican Theatre stages a production of Shakespeare’s evergreen work A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Looking to breathe new life into the play, this staging has been overseen by the creative team behind the highly successful War Horse (Bristol Old Vic’s artistic director Tom Morris along with Handspring Puppet Company).
Fantastical and enchanting, it tells the story of the shape-shifting Puck (who was created from a workman’s tools) and the eight foot tall Titania, who presides over a gang of malevolent fairies. When the giant Oberon manipulates his fairy queen, he causes terrible confusion when interfering in the lives of a couple of squabbling lovers.
Hilarious and imaginatively presented, this irreverent comedy is a wondrous mix of Shakespeare’s great work and technical stage wizardry.
