The Royal Opera House is the latest home for the majestic ballet Giselle. Thought by many to be the greatest of all the Romantic ballets, this latest production of Marius Petipa’s classic work has been conjured up from the great creative mind of Peter Wright.
A tale of betrayal, supernatural spirits and love that transcends death, it tells the story of a young peasant girl who loves nothing more than dancing. Tragedy ensues when she discovers that her lover is engaged to someone else, causing her to die of a broken heart. When spirits and magic intervene, the leads have to undertake arduous dancing tasks, leading to emotional turmoil and reflections on the nature of vengeance and forgiveness.
Beautifully choreographed and elegantly staged, this production is an atmospheric and dramatic take on a classic work.
