The veteran American singer-songwriter and actor has had a particularly varied career. Helicopter pilot and sportsman can be added to his CV, alongside his artistic achievements. Although starting his musical career in the 1960s, it was his association with the late Janis Joplin that helped propel him into the limelight as her recording of his song Me And Bobby McGee stayed in the US charts for several weeks. Kristofferson had met Johnny Cash earlier and had some of his songs accepted by the country legend and Cash subsequently assisted Kristofferson by getting him an appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. Subsequent albums cemented his success and these were followed by Grammys in the following years. He helped form the famous outlaw country band The Highwaymen with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, bringing further success. In 1970s he took up acting appearing in a number of famous films including Convoy and Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid and is well remembered co-starring with Barbra Streisand in A Star Is Born. Kristofferson also appeared in the three Blade films. Latterly he has concentrated more on the musical side of his career and was inducted into the Country Hall Of Fame in 2004 along with receiving a number of prestigious music awards.
