For a luscious, festive treat of a show, The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum takes some beating.
Returning for its fifth year, this spectacular production from the English National Ballet has become an essential part of the Christmas calendar. Set to Tchaikovsky's enduringly hypnotic music, the events take place in an atmospheric, frosty London.
Amid the gas lamps and horse drawn carriages, a girl named Clara is accompanied by her nutcracker doll on a magical adventure. Beneath the needles of a Christmas tree, she encounters the infamous Mouse King and falls for a dashing stranger before setting off on a hot air balloon ride across the roof tops of London. Arriving at the enchanted Land of Snow, the scene is set for some beautiful choreography set to the likes of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Flowers.
With exceptional production values and peerless artistry and elegance, this magical tale has never looked or sounded quite so good.
