Former Doctor Who star David Tennant takes the lead in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Richard II at the Barbican.
Transferring directly from Stratford-upon Avon and helmed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran, the mercurial Tennant is joined by Oliver Ford Davies as the Duke of York and Nigel Lindsay as Henry Bolingbroke.
A monarch ordained by God to lead his people, Richard is a man with some all too apparent human weaknesses. A man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and to take his people unwillingly into a terrible and bloody civil war.
Boasting some of the same talent that made Tennant’s Hamlet a rollicking success, the stars are aligned to ensure that this take on Shakespeare’s evergreen drama is just as compelling and memorable.
