Overview

Award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto has been selected to design this year's Serpentine Pavilion.

Each year, a different artist is chosen to design a temporary building for the lawn outside the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens.

Fujimoto is the 13th and, at 41, the youngest architect to be selected for the commission. Previous Pavilions have been designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei, Frank Gehry, and Zaha Hadid.

This year's Pavilion will be made from a lattice of steel poles, giving a delicate, lightweight appearance. Visitors will be encouraged to spend time inside the Pavilion, which will host a café and a variety of different events.
