It's all change for Alphabeat. New look, new sound and, surprisingly, new record label. Despite back-to-back top 20 hits with "Boyfriend", "10,000 Nights" and "Fascination", the Danish pop six-piece was dropped by record label EMI at the tail end of 2008 - an odd turn of events considering the debut album This Is Alphabeat was certified gold in the UK and the catchy "Fascination" became a dancefloor anthem through the summer. With Polydor now backing the band to the hilt, Alphabeat is moving forward at breakneck speed, unleashing the eagerly awaited second album The Spell. The single of the same name paves the way in toe-tapping fashion. It is an unabashedly exuberant dance track inspired by the '90s Black Box anthem "I Don't Know Anybody Else" complete with an infectious chorus, electronic beeps and soaring vocals from Stine Bramsen and Anders SG. Alphabeat famously turned down the chance to support Spice Girls on their sell-out reunion world tour then earlier this year, the band was confirmed as warm-up for Katy Perry on her North American tour only to pull out to concentrate on the new label. To promote The Spell, Anders, Stine and the boys - Anders B, Troels Hansen, Rasmus Nagel and Anders Reinholdt - will be performing the new songs in intimate venues around the country. Highlights should be the uplifting "Heart Failure" and the thumping and swoonsome "Hole In My Heart", which is a top ten single in waiting.
