Villagers is the brainchild of Conor J. O'Brien, who has already toured Ireland, the UK and US and opened for Neil Young, Wild Beasts and Cass McCombs amongst others. Now he leads Villagers, who've toured with Tracy Chapman, Bell X1, Tindersticks and Elbow. Doing the rounds at several music festivals their debut album, ‘Becoming a Jackal’ was released in 2010 and was shortlisted for both the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. Simple lyrics, like in ‘27 Strangers’ which reads like a descriptive list, become opulent due to O’Brien’s arrangement and warble, making it resonate no matter how mundane the subject. Audiences will be swept into O’Brien’s fragile but strong welding lyrics that will no doubt resonate with everyone.
