Overview

John Christie, Glyndebourne's founder, had always dreamed of staging Wagner. In 2003 that dream was finally, triumphantly fulfilled with this now-classic production of the composer's ecstatic hymn to the all-consuming power of human love. It was revived and recorded live at the 2007 Festival with Robert Gambill and Nina Stemme as the doomed lovers with Jiří Bĕlohlávek conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
