Bach Study Day: St John Passion at Kings Place

In this two-part study day, staff and students from the Royal Academy of Music will explore the eighteenth-century context, musical style and performance traditions of Bach’s St John Passion. Part 1: The St John Passion: Context and Style and Part 2: Performance Traditions in the St John Passion. In this session Timothy Jones will be joined by colleagues at the Royal Academy of Music to discuss what we know of Bach’s performances of the Passion, how new traditions of performing the Passion developed in the mid Nineteenth Century, and how they have changed during the era of sound recording.
