The Big Bamboozle at Camden Arts Centre
Overview
A spectacular fundraising drive. For one afternoon and evening only, the entire building and garden will be transformed into the studio and bohemian seaside home of a certain Finchley Arkwright-Keslake-Essendine (F.A.K.E), ‘one of the greatest, but most overlooked, female artists of the 20th century’. This ‘pioneering yet largely unknown modernist’ will be auctioning off the contents of her studio, including mementoes of famous friends and rivals down the decades, as well as a staggering collection of ‘Mimicist’ artworks. During the day there will be family activities, stalls, food and workshops for visitors to enjoy; while the evening’s ticketed event will feature special performances in the artist’s exclusive salon. Street Feast will be on hand to provide delicious snacks and meals. The Big Bamboozle, in partnership with Outset Contemporary Art Fund and writer Sally O’Reilly, will help Camden Arts Centre raise an ambitious £100,000 to support the artist residency programme. A fun packed afternoon takes in life drawing, tips on restoration, still life techniques, beauty treatments, delicious food and gossip. At dusk Camden Arts Centre will be transformed into a glamorous bohemian home and seaside haunt, hosting an evening of art and salty excess.
