Emily Baker at Green Note
Overview
Dividing her time between writing, recording and generally making a lot of noise, Brighton-based musician Emily Baker has been writing songs for ages. Drawing inspiration from Brian Wilson for his massive backing vocals, McCartney's melodies and lyrics inspired by the likes of Carol King, James Taylor and proper good bands like Squeeze and Crowded House; Emily's style fuses classic songwriting with a contemporary twist. In her recordings there's always a bit of an electro edge, which she can't help as she enjoyed the finer side of growing up in the 80's. Emily has attended Chris Difford's infamous songwriting retreat for the last two years where she co-wrote tracks with Adam Levy (Norah Jones), Amy Wadge, Matt Deighton (Mother Earth/ The Bench Connection), Luke Brighty (Mark Knopfler/ William Topley) and George Hammond - Hagan (Liberty X) to name a few. She also co-writes with Alice Shaw, one of Brighton's finest writers and performers. Emily's gigs are currently acoustic, solo performances with the odd surprise guest. This is her at her most vulnerable and the songs shine with raw talent.
