Claire Chorley looks at the restoration of Holbein's 'Portrait of Hans of Antwerp'. The painting, dated 1532, was recorded in 1639 as being 'Done by Holbin, upon a crackt board'. Chorley, the paintings conservator, uncovers the secrets hidden for hundreds of years beneath the layers of paint and give an insight into the painstaking techniques of the restorer's work.
