Stile Antico: A Musical Renaissance at The Queen's Gallery - Buckingham Palace
Overview
Stile Antico perform a programme of glorious renaissance polyphony devised to complement the exhibition. Alongside Catholic devotional music from the court of Henry VIII and secular chanson from Flanders, the group sings two works intimately connected with the delicate politics of the Holy Roman Empire. Morales' exuberant Jubilate commemorates the 1538 Truce of Nice, brokered by the pope between the emperor and the king of France, while another emperor, Maximilian I, is represented by the magnificent setting of the humanist text Virgo Prudentissima composed to celebrate his coronation by the Flemish master Heinrich Isaac.
