Virgin London Marathon at Greenwich Park

Whilst runners have to suffer the pain of the 26 mile and 385 yard route from Greenwich Park to The Mall, all in the name of achievement and fundraising, the rest of us can enjoy cheering them on, safe in the comfort of no more exertion than the walk to the roadside. Still, it's all of benefit (particularly in the dark moments when the runners hit the wall out in the Docklands!), and a good excuse for a Sunday out surveying the sights - even if it does bring the capital to a standstill as a result. There's lots of places to view the action, from Cutty Sark to Tower Bridge, Embankment to Buckingham Palace, so get out in the city and cheer on the intrepid amateurs and professionals alike, as they pound the tarmac.
