Casablanca at Roxy Bar and Screen

Considered one of the best films of all time, surprisingly 'Casablanca' was never expected to be successful at the box office. Featuring Humphrey Bogart in his first romantic role, the film was churned out of Hollywood in 1942, and won three unforeseen Academy Awards. Bogart plays Rick, an expat living in Casablanca who runs a nightclub called Rick’s Cafe Americain. He is a miserly soul, after his heart was trampled on by the beautiful Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), and sure enough - out of all the bars in all the world, she comes walking into his, requesting that Sam play their love song ‘As Time Goes By’. Although Ilsa has married Czech rebel, Victor, her attraction for Rick still burns, and much of the film is spent debating how and if they can be together. The film climaxes in one of the most memorable scenes in cinema, proving that not all romances have a happy ending.
