Kovasikajuttu (The Punk Syndrome) at ICA Institute of Contemporary Arts
Overview
Pertti Kurikka's Name Day features four members who have learning difficulties and have grown up well aware of their differences. Their leader Pertti struggles with a range of emotions as he pens their angry lyrics, his anxieties manifesting themselves by his need to obsessively examine the seams in everyone’s clothes. Lead singer Kari is hoping to move out of his group home, and become engaged to girlfriend Sirkka - but is not entirely sure what married life will entail. In this enjoyable, life affirming film, we follow them as they play to bigger and bigger gigs, at the same time dealing with the everyday frustrations of being 'different'.
