Battle of Britain at Royal Air Force Museum
Overview
To celebrate Battle of Britain Week, the Flavel presents the stirring 1969 film of the eight week long aerial combat to save Britain. After the successful German invasion of western Europe in 1939, Britain stood alone with the prospect of either starvation, caused by the U Boat blockade, or the launch of 'Operation Sealion', the German planned invasion of Britain. First, the more powerful Luftwaffe had to destroy British air power. The decisive clash lasted from August to October 12th 1940 when the Nazi daylight attacks were abandoned, just at the point of likely German success.
