Langham Research Centre and Ian Pace: The Music of Chance at Barbican Art Gallery
Overview
The Langham Research Centre performs a selection of John Cage's electronic works from the 1950s. Electromagnetic music made with authentic devices, hi-tech circa 1955. The crackle and buzz of loudspeakers energised by analogue circuits and chance operations. As a prelude, the pianist Ian Pace plays two books from 'Music of Changes', Cage's first work constructed entirely through chance events determined by the I-Ching.
