Chvrches at ICA Institute of Contemporary Arts
Overview
Chvrches are Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry - three distinct individuals bearing three distinct personalities on a consummate whole. Combining indie sensibilities and aesthetics with barbed pop hooks and and an unhealthy obsession with Prince, Chvrches take elements of classic electronica, hip hop and post-punk, and yet sound like none of the above. Their blend of classic and modern analogue synthesisers, bruised beats and crude vocal sampling comes to the fore in their debut single The Mother We Share, as it did in Lies, their first track that seeped onto the internet in mid-2012.
