Once Upon a Time... When We Were Colored at BFI Southbank
Overview
Heartfelt and epic cinema depicting a black community in the rural South in the years from 1946 to 1962, when hard-line segregation is challenged by an emerging collective civil rights movement. It’s a moving memory of the close bonds of family, friends and church that grew to sustain such communities in a society where an American version of apartheid was the law. Actor-producer-director Tim Reid, of the Legacy Media Institute, will be present at the screening for a Q&A. He will also present a new film from participants in the LMI.
