Les Trois Couronnes du Matelot (Three Crowns of the Sailor) at BFI Southbank
Overview
Chilean filmmaker Raoul Ruiz was born of a ship’s captain and a schoolteacher - which sounds like one of the surrealist yarns that make up Three Crowns of the Sailor. It’s like The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, romantically overblown by Orson Welles and mordantly undermined by Luis Bunuel.
