Opera UK: La Traviata at The Bloomsbury Theatre
Overview
'La Traviata' is perhaps the most popular of all operas - with its tragic love story set to glorious music. And it is a story that everyone knows – the famous courtesan, forced to give up the love of her life, only to die in poverty, young and heartbroken. Who can forget Julia Roberts crying her eyes out when watching it in the film 'Pretty Woman'! Opera UK’s new production will add a twist to all this. The opera will be set in Hitler’s Germany and at the start we see that Violetta is the kept mistress of a Nazi officer, before she makes her tragic bid for freedom. Following the success of previous Opera UK productions 'La Traviata' will have the same house style – the music beautifully played by a chamber ensemble, stylish designs for the costumes and settings; and outstanding performances by the talented cast.
