Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
Overview
The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are eight brothers from Chicago. Philip Cohran, their father, spent time in the musical hothouse of 1940s St Louis, and played a seminal role with Sun Ra in 1950s Chicago. They woke at 6am for several hours' music practice before school. At the end of the nineties they brought together their musicianship, their jazz roots and their hip hop sensibility, and made a living busking on the streets of Chicago before eventually transferring to New York City.
