12 Ensemble: Various Composers at The Forge
Overview
Join 12 ensemble for a concert including Haydn, Mozart, Webern and Schoenberg, performed by London’s only professional un-conducted string orchestra. The 12 ensemble’s latest offering seeks to explore the imagery of day and night, light and dark and love and loss in an inspirational programme of music for strings. The concert opens with music inspired by the break of day; Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76 No.4, nicknamed the ‘Sunrise’, arranged by the ensemble. Webern’s ‘Langsamer Satz’ follows, one of the composer’s earliest works and his first assignment as a pupil of Schoenberg. In composing it he was surely influenced by his mentor’s string sextet Transfigured Night, which ends the programme.
