Overview
This classic with the later stages of Handel's life when he fell out of popular favour. Isolated and plagued by financial worries and ill health, he shut himself away and worked day and night on The Messiah, the performance of which at the Royal Opera House in 1743 resulted in a standing ovation led by the King.
