A Matter of Style at The Actors Centre
Overview
'Style', said John Gielgud, 'is knowing what sort of play you are in'. It’s a witty and true comment but doesn’t address the tremendous demands writers such as Congreve, Farquhar, Goldsmith, Wilde and Shaw, not to mention Beckett or Pinter, make on modern day actors in matters of phrasing, variety of tone, diction, as well as in social detail of manners and movement.
