Blue Stockings at Shakespeare's Globe
Overview
Blue Stockings' is a play about the education of women set in 1896. Girton college is home to Britain's first female university students. Determined and intelligent, they match the boys grade for grade. Yet, at graduation, they leave with nothing but the stigma of being a 'blue stocking', an educated but unnatural woman. Determined to win the right to graduate, the girls prepare for battle. But does the lure of extra-curricular activities and well-heeled men scupper their chance to change history?
