Saturday Seminars: Chris Fite-Wassilak at Serpentine Gallery
Overview
In this session, Chris Fite-Wassilak will discuss Jonas Mekas's work in the context of the figure of the 'benshi' in early 20th-century Japanese silent cinema. Standing beside the screen, the benshi would provide live interpretation of the moving image. Fite-Wassilak will focus particularly on Mekas's use and re-use of footage, soundtrack and narration.
