Dead Europe at The Hospital Club
Overview
After the death of his father, Australian-born Isaac travels to Greece to scatter the ashes. Upon visiting the village where his father was born, Isaac is warned of an old curse that hangs over the head of his family. At first dismissing the claims as religious myth, Isaac continues his journey across Europe, from Paris to Budapest, discovering further clues about his heritage along the way, gradually piecing together a dark truth to uncover the secret torment that forced his father to abscond all those years ago. A brooding interpretation of Christos Tsiolkas’ acclaimed novel, 'Dead Europe' comes steeped in mystery and superstition, addressing disparate themes of religion, sexuality and politics in surprising and compelling ways. In many ways a study of a continent in decline, the figure of Europe itself hangs heavy over proceedings, as do the ghosts that inhabit it, both metaphorical and quite possibly real.
